 Horses for Lease at Contry Hill Farm

Horse Leasing Options - for students

At Contry Hill we offer our students the opportunity to lease their favorite school horse at the farm. If you’re interested in leasing a horse, we have new riders start with lessons and commit from there. Leases are on a month-to-month basis, and a lease contract is signed. Riders can travel off farm to shows with the farm. We pride ourselves in matching our students with our horses - safe, happy horses and riders. Practice ride days are scheduled around lessons.

Quarter Lease

1 Lesson and 1 practice ride a week – $365 per month

Half Lease

1 Lesson and 2 practice rides a week – $500 per month

Full Lease

1 Lesson and 3 practice rides a week – $875 per month + farrier

Tido

Tido is a 17.2 hand, 19 year old, bay Hanoverian gelding. He was shown through 4th level dressage. Quiet with a puppy dog personality. He requires a rider with a quiet and effective leg and does need to be encouraged forward. Great in the group and great ground manners!

Lunar Eclipse

Available for Quarter or Half Lease

Luna is a 15.1 hand, late teens, black, grade, mare. She is a fun, safe, very sensitive, forward ride. Easy to stop and soft in the bridle. Luna prefers a quiet rider with a soft hand because she listens so well! Not spooky. Great ground manners, clips ties etc. Great in the group.

Star

Available for Quarter Lease

Star is a 14.1 hand aged Morgan Arabian cross. He is very safe on the ground and under saddle. He very safe on the ground and under saddle. He is a confidence builder for our beginners or less confident riders. He has won numerous awards with students at local hunter, 4-H, dressage, and eventing shows. He is a nice size for a kid or small adult under 120 lbs.

Peanut

Currently Available for Quarter, Half Lease

A 14 hand, stocky Haflinger QH mare cross. In your pocket, with tons of personality. She will knicker when she sees you. Forward and uncomplicated in the ring. Beginner friendly but needs a intermediate rider for trails and cross country. Peanut has nice jumping form and she is good to lunge or long line. She had received scores in the 60's in dressage and has been schooling over 2'3" fences and competed at a recognized Beginner Novice event at Stoneleigh Burnham. She has helped students earn their D2 pony club rating. She is a great size for a kid or short adult.

Splash

Available for Quarter or Half Lease

Splash is a 13 hand, Chincoteague pony, gelding. He can be ridden by an advanced beginner in the ring. Quiet on the trail and in a group.

Phoenix

Unavailable at this time- under lease

Phoenix is a 17.1 hand homebred Thoroughbred gelding. Built and moves like a warmblood. Sensitive to the aids. Has competed in dressage, eventing, and hunter shows. Phoenix has been invited to the equine affair to represent the breed the last 3 years! He was the highest scoring Thoroughbred in dressage at the Dressage 4 kids festival. Evented through Training Level in Maryland. Competed at a “C” rated hunter show in the 2’7” division with an adult amateur. Working on simple lead changes and getting ready to learn flying lead changes. Honest over fences. Needs a quiet confident rider to move up the levels with. Would not be a good match for a timid rider.

Gambia

Gambia is a 15.3 hand aged bay Trakehner mare. Gambia came to the lesson program to be in light work and give our students a fancy quiet mount. She is fun in the ring or on the trail and great in a group.

Gracie

Gracie is an elegant and athletic, 15.3 hand, bay, Thoroughbred mare. She is forward and sensitive to the aids. She goes on the trail and loves jumping. Suitable for an advanced quiet rider. Not a beginner’s horse.

Zephyr

Available for Quarter, Half, or Full Lease

Zephyr is an aged dark bay 14.3 hand anglo arab mare. She is very sensitive to the aids. Beautiful mover and comfortable gaits. Zephyr can spook so she requires a balanced gentle rider. Schooled in first level movements as well as lateral work (shoulder in, renvers, travers). She is a love bug on the ground, has good manners, and loves to be groomed. Has done some competitive trail riding in the past as well as small local events. Participated in the equine affair clinics in 2002. She enjoys riding in the arena.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory “Fudge”

Available for Quarter, Half, or Full Lease

Fudge is a handsome 15.1 hand, black, aged gelding. He is very sensitive to the aids and moves easily forward. Beginner safe. He goes into a frame with ease, he a sensitive mouth and prefers a rider with a quiet hand. Fudge is great in the ring for walk trot and light cantering, not spooky. Sweet temperament, he loves attention! Lightly trail ridden. An awesome horse for a small adult or teen looking for a horse to spoil and love.

Honey

Available for Quarter or Half Lease

Older 12.2 hand, dark palomino, pony mare. Excellent groung manners and very safe to handle for a young rider on the ground. Very well trained jumper (very bold). Forward on trails and cross country, so she requires an intermediate level rider outside of the ring. She never refuses cross country fences. Good for a beginner on the flat in the ring with supervision. She is quick and responsive and does well in gymkhanas or games. She’s done competitive trail riding and finished with excellent recovery times and a score of 100 at GMHA with a junior! Honey also competed in a recognized Beginner Novice event. She would be a nice competitive pony for a young rider with a good seat, and light hands. Honey has helped students earn their D2 pony club rating.
